Painters

 

Painters prepare interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, bridges, water towers, and other structures.  They use materials such as varnishes, lacquers, enamels, and other types of coatings.  They must be able to operate sand blasters, water blasters, and other types of machinery.  The Painter's trade also includes drywall taping and the application of wall covering.

 

How do I prepare for the trade?

The following will be helpful to have completed courses in or possess the following skills:

Good reading ability

General math ability

Able to lift 60 pounds

Good Blueprint reading ability

How do I qualify?

At least 18 years old

High school education or GED

Have a valid drivers license

Have transportation

 

What are the program specifics?

Length of program is 4 years

Minimum of 144 hours of classroom instruction each year

1500 hours of on-the-job training each year

Starting pay is 55% of journeyman wage
